Bulk product upload: add hundreds of products in one go

Bulk product upload lets you add as many products as your plan allows in one go. Instead of adding products one by one, you prepare a CSV file and upload hundreds of products with their images, variants and descriptions at once.

Once your products are uploaded, you can manage them across your physical and online outlets with the Blanxer POS and inventory system. The whole process has six parts: preparing images, uploading them, understanding the CSV columns, writing descriptions, creating categories and preparing the CSV, then uploading it.

Step 1: Prerequisites

Before you start:

• Keep the pictures of all your products and variants in one folder
• Make every picture 1:1 aspect ratio (recommended size 1080 x 1080) so it fits the website perfectly
• Name the picture files clearly, so you can tell which image belongs to which product and variant

Step 2: Upload your product pictures to Blanxer

1. Step 1

   Create a folder

   Go to Media Management, click + Folder and create a folder (for example, Nov_30).

2. Step 2

   Upload the images

   Open the folder you created and drag and drop all the images from your local folder into it.

3. Step 3

   Download the folder CSV

   At the top right, click the CSV button to download the CSV for that folder.

   This file has two columns, file_name and file_url, and you need it for the bulk upload.

Step 3: Understand the bulk upload CSV format

Go to Products → Add Product → Bulk Upload and click Download Sample CSV. The sample file has these columns:

Required fields

• product_name: required
• price: required
• image_1: required
• product_description: must contain at least 20 characters
• If group is filled in, either variant or size is also required

Fill in your_buying_cost wherever you can: it is what lets Blanxer analytics show real profit and margin, not just sales. The POS channel (3) applies if you bill in store with Blanxer POS, part of the Platinum plan.

Step 4: Write product descriptions in HTML

Use the Blanxer description generator:

1. Visit description.blanxer.com.
2. Write the description for an individual product.
3. Click Show HTML Value and copy the HTML.
4. Paste this HTML into the product_description field of your CSV.

Step 5: Create your categories

Go to Categories and add the categories your products need.

Step 6: Prepare the CSV file

Combine the two CSV files

1. Open both CSV files: the upload sample and the folder CSV from step 2.
2. Copy file_name from the folder CSV into the product_name field.
3. Copy file_url into the image_1 field.
4. Fill in the other fields: price, category, description and so on.

Products with variants (colours and sizes)

For products with several colours and sizes:

• Add a separate row for each variant and size combination.
• Use the same group value for every row of the same product.
• Fill in variant (for example, "Red", "Blue") and size (for example, "S", "M", "L") as needed.

Example: a Premium Sofa in 2 colours and 2 sizes is 4 rows in the CSV, all with the same group value.

Upload your CSV

1. Step 1

   Save your prepared CSV file

   Save it as a .csv file.

2. Step 2

   Open the bulk uploader

   Go to Products → Add Product → Bulk Upload.

3. Step 3

   Drop in your file

   Drag and drop your CSV file onto the bulk uploader.

4. Step 4

   Review the upload results

   Check how many products were added and whether any were rejected.

Fix rejected products and re-upload

If some products fail to upload, the system will:

• Show how many products were added successfully and how many were rejected
• Generate a separate CSV of the rejected products with the reason for each rejection
• Let you fix the errors and re-upload that rejected file

The usual causes are the rules in step 3: a missing product_name, price or image_1, a description under 20 characters, or a group row with neither variant nor size.
